"Boyd Cooper has offered us a wonderful service, always professional and friendly
and always available to answer any of our queries."
Claire Agin – Senior PA & Office Manager for Clinical
Operations, Great Ormond Street Hospital |
| |
|
|
| |
| Business booming
as more customers come on board |
As a PaSA (Purchasing & Supply Agency) NHS National Contract
holder, Boyd Cooper continues to attract big business from the
NHS, health and institutes of higher education sectors.
With Oxford Radcliffe, Newcastle
and Gateshead, Harrogate and
Essex’s Princess Alexandra Hospital
NHS Trusts under its belt, Boyd Cooper recently added Great
Ormond Street Children’s Hospital,
Salford Royal Hospital and Salford
PCT to its ‘big wins’.
When Great Ormond Street
Children’s Hospital selected new
corporate clothing for its 100 plus
admin and clerical staff, they chose Boyd Cooper for the high quality of
manufacture and excellent
customer service it provides.
The Hospital’s staff were
measured for a selection of gents’
jackets and trousers, ladies’ tailored
suits, skirts and blouses, together with fleece and cardigan options.
All items were embroidered with
the Great Ormond Street Hospital
emblem.
Staff were offered a choice of
eight garments, including two jacket
styles and blouses, in the coordinated
black and cream colour scheme.
Ladies chose between a classic
style or long-line jacket, and blouses
made from breathable polyester or
micropeche fabric. All items in the
range, including the tailored suits,
are machine washable.
“The new corporate clothing will
be delivered in individually packaged
suit carriers labelled with the name
of each member of staff,” says Ken
Tansley, Boyd Cooper Sales
Manager.
Ken has worked closely on the
order with the Hospital’s Senior PA
and Office Manager for Clinical
Operations, Claire Agin and
Katharine Goldthorpe, Service
Manager for Respiratory and
Transitional Care.
“Great Ormond Street chose
Boyd Cooper to supply their
corporate wear because of the high
quality of clothing we provide, and also because we offer a complete
on-site measuring service and total
uniform solution,” adds Ken.
Great Ormond Street is looking
forward to taking delivery of the
new uniforms, and as Claire and
Katharine said: “Boyd Cooper has offered us a wonderful service,
always professional and friendly and
always available to answer any of
our queries – we look forward to our continued joint working.” |

| ‘Boyd Cooper
wins over Salford PCT |
|
Winning the Salford PCT contract was even more of a
competition than usual for Boyd Cooper.
As one of the PaSA NHS National Contract suppliers, Boyd
Cooper was invited to bring corporate, casual and outerwear
samples to an open day at one of the Trust’s health centres.
More than 80 PCT staff also came to look at and feel the
samples and then complete a questionnaire to evaluate all the
uniforms on show.
Having studied the look, quality, range, colours and cut of
garments, staff selected Boyd Cooper as the outright winner.
“The staff are the end users of course, so it was only fair to
let them choose their own uniform supplier,” says Acting
Supplies Manager, Louise Timms, who adds that Salford PCT
worked with Boyd Cooper before and always received really
good service, value for money and quality garments from them. |
| |
| |
"We’re particularly pleased with Boyd
Cooper’s ‘Unipack’ service, where each order
is individually packed and labelled with
the staff member’s name." |
| |
|
| |
To complete the selection process, more garments were
brought into the PCT so that staff could choose whether they
wanted print or plain designs.
This was followed by four fitting sessions, in which 200
people were measured up for a wide range of uniforms and
corporate wear.
Clothing for staff at Salford PCT ranges from tunics, trousers,
track suit bottoms and polo-shirts for allied healthcare
professionals, such as physiotherapists, podiatrists and
occupational therapists, to tunics, trousers and dresses for
nurses, and blouses and suits for admin and clerical staff.
"
Our orders are now going through,” says Louise. “We’re
particularly pleased with Boyd Cooper’s ‘Unipack’ service,
where each order is individually packed and labelled with the
staff member’s name. This saves us valuable time as we don’t
have any dedicated staff to deal with uniform purchase or to
distribute orders when they arrive.” |

To service the needs of Boyd Cooper’s growing number of university customers
the very latest computer technology has been brought into play.
Student nurses from more than twenty British universities are being measured up
for uniforms ready for their hospital placement by the Boyd Cooper team. |
| |
| |
"Each individual’s
measurements are
electronically logged onto
a spreadsheet at the
customer location." |
| |
|
| |
Each individual’s measurements are electronically logged onto a spreadsheet at the customer location and then e-mailed to the Boyd Cooper Head Office. From here the information is datasorted and forwarded to Boyd Cooper’s factory. The information is also forwarded onto the customer, as this forms a very useful database for future reference.“
The electronic logging of measurements forms the basis for delivery,” says National NHS Sales & Marketing Manager, Chris Cocks.
“Within 24 hours of the sizing session taking place, the material is cut and the garments are put into production. Upon completion, the garments are then alphabetically ‘Unipacked’ for delivery according to the pre-planned schedule for each particular customer.” |
|
|
|
| This in-house customer measuring service from Boyd Cooper and individual person packaged delivery of uniforms is also available to hospital, PCT and corporate customers. |

| Catalogue praise |
| |
"The colour guide
acts as a handy
‘ready reference’
whichever page
or garment is
viewed." |
| |
|
Last year’s Boyd Cooper catalogue has
received praise from across the industry
for its stylish content, reflecting the quality of
the Boyd Cooper range.
The 64-page catalogue has also been praised
for its attention to detail and ease of use,
particularly the unique fold-out colour guide:
“The catalogue was designed to provide all the
information buyers and users need,” explains
Marketing Manager, Chris Cocks. “Each
garment is depicted by a line drawing which
shows full details of the style together with a
concise description of the garment’s features.”
The fold-out colour guide and size chart
then make selecting fabrics much easier
without the need to constantly refer back to
the garment.“As the colour guide can be
folded out from the catalogue it acts as a
handy ‘ready reference’ whichever page or
garment is viewed.” added Chris.
The new 2005 Boyd Cooper catalogue also
features a comprehensive fold-out colour
guide and is out now (see overleaf for details).

| No more sewing |
Boyd Cooper has put an end to the laborious task of sewing trouser hems.
The new ‘turn-up’ solution is Hem-Fix, an iron-on tape that takes seconds
to apply.
“Many of our trousers now come unhemmed,” says the companys’ Pattern
Technologist, Leonard Fisher. “This enables the wearer to establish the optimum
length and the introduction of Hem-Fix facilitates the easy alteration of the
garment. Hem-Fix, together with easy to follow instructions, is included free with all trousers.
“Hospitals used to have their own sewing rooms where jobs like trouser
hemming were carried out. These days few hospitals and even fewer of the PCTs
have access to a sewing service. Boyd Cooper is the only corporate wear
company which provides a complimentary hem-fixing service to its customers.”
Salford Royal Hospital thought Hem-Fix was a great idea for their male and
female nurses’ trouser orders. “Even if you can’t sew, you can use Hem-Fix – it’s
so easy, ” says Salford Procurement Manager Julie Rice. “We used to buy trousers
ready hemmed, but the lengths weren’t always suitable for everybody. Hem-Fix is
a new idea that we’re more than willing to try. ” |

| Boyd Cooper wins NHS Scotland Contract |
 |
After lengthy preparatory exercises, vetting procedures and a consultation period, the new NHS Scotland TAG 500 contract – which has also been awarded to one other uniform supplier – took effect at the beginning of March 2005.
The contract commenced with orders from the Argyll & Clyde ‘Pathfinder Trust’ choosing Boyd Cooper to supply all its nurses’ uniforms, AHP uniforms and other items of staff clothing.
Argyll & Clyde was selected as the ‘Pathfinder Trust’ because it is geographically one of the largest trusts in Scotland. The current Health Board comprises three merged Trusts which include a number of hospitals and about 65 different styles of tunic.
“We had to select a design that would meet all the different requirements of staff and save the Trust money,” says Boyd Cooper’s Sales Manager, Alan Boyle. “After careful deliberation we presented a product with design elements that over 90% of the Board, staff and managers were satisfied with.
|
|
“One of our unique selling points was the choice of three body length fittings. This flexibility on size ensures that everyone can be supplied with a proper fitting garment with no added costs to the Board.
“We’ve already satisfied customers at Forth Valley and the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service with our wide choice of sizes. Our petite customers in Scotland and those who are six feet plus tall, are delighted that they can now wear uniforms that fit them properly.“
BPI Senior Procurement Officer, Gordon Dickson at Scottish Healthcare Supplies, says: “After an extensive tender exercise, Boyd Cooper has been chosen by Scottish Healthcare Supplies as one of the suppliers for the New TAG 500 contract to supply staff clothing to the NHS in Scotland.
“The tender exercise was subject to rigorous evaluation criteria, which included after sales service, quality,
delivery and costing. Boyd Cooper achieved an overall high score, which resulted in an award of contract.”
With the Scottish contract now in place and set to continue for the next three years, Boyd Cooper is making contact with the rest of the Scottish Boards with a view to how it can help them improve on quality of service, reduce stock levels and save money, which in turn will help free up valuable resources for patient care.
Boyd Cooper currently supplies uniforms to most NHS Boards in Scotland, and as business increases, the
company intends to expand its Scottish division.

| ‘Pathfinder Trust’ picks Boyd Cooper |
 |
As NHS Scotland’s ‘Pathfinder Trust’, Argyll & Clyde has being buying nurses’ uniforms from Boyd Cooper for the past six months.
The Trust embarked on a uniform validation programme in 2004 with its key objectives being to streamline the uniform image, improve staff identification, reduce costs and improve quality. A lot of time and effort went into selecting a professional looking range of options that would meet everyone’s requirements. During the consultation period, Boyd Cooper supplied Argyll & Clyde with uniform samples, colour swatches, drawings and wearer samples as requested.
The final uniform chosen is available in sizes 6-36 and three body length fittings. It is designed to be comfortable during all the moving and handling actions that nursing involves and incorporates twin vents and tapered action-back pleats.
|
|
“The tunic design also includes a number of additional cosmetic details,” explains Sales Manager, Alan Boyle. “It has a three-quarter length nylon zip to improve the strength of the garment and the coloured trim offers improved staff identification.
“There is also a maternity version of all tunics and dresses on which we offer a fast-track service, so no more ‘spot the mum’ – and we aim to supply these orders within 20-25 working days” adds Alan.
Colours have also been carefully chosen to enable members of the public and colleagues to identify more easily designations and roles within the Trust.
Argyll & Clyde will also benefit from Boyd Cooper’s stockholding service and staff training provision.
When Argyll & Clyde chose Boyd Cooper to supply their nurses’ uniforms they were looking for a comfortable and professional look and value for money. They got what they asked for, plus more – Boyd Cooper’s high quality garments and flexible service. |

| Extending the service to AHPs |
| "We can supply uniforms for any hospital department in a wide range of colours." |
Having won the contract to supply NHS Scotland with uniforms for all staff, Boyd Cooper continues to offer a specialist service to Allied Health Professionals.

"We can supply uniforms for any hospital department in a wide range of colours and offer an embroidery service for the professional institute logos,” says Boyd Cooper’s Sales and Marketing Manager Chris Cocks.
All garments are of the highest quality with tunics available in three lengths, whilst trousers are supplied with Boyd Cooper’s ‘Hem-Fix’ iron-on tape for easy alteration.
